EXHIBITION 01 (23.05 - 04.06.14)

"on an azure field a circle of twelve golden mullets, their points not touching"

_

On Exhibition 01 we encounter works that portray the topic Immigration. The subtitle itself - on an azure field a circle of twelve golden mullets, their points not touching - is the heraldic description of the european union flag, which is a common point among the artists that take part on the exhibition who coming from other continents decided to base their practice within Europe, Germany.

Lucas Odahara, Paula Hurtado Otero, Camila Riveiros, Daniela Reina Tellez and Zhe Wang bring up questions such as what does it take to be an immigrant? In a time where artists constantly shift places, and specially undertake art programs within universities abroad, is it relevant the use of the word immigration for them on the same way that it’s used for immigration labor force, as the flux of artists going from the ‘art peripheries’ to the center follows also most of the times the flux of labor within countries governed by capital?

Within this exhibition, the artists approached Immigration on different levels, from it’s bureaucratic physical aspect to ideas of motherhood and inconstancy.
